We attended the 2015 Antigua Charter Yacht Show

4 December 2015 – By Laurie Foulon

Every year a spectacular array of the finest luxury yachts from all over the world gather in the Caribbean waters of Antigua to participate in the Yacht Show.

This year over a 100 motor and sailing yachts converged at the Marinas in Falmouth and English Harbours, located in the historic Southern part of the Island.

The aim of the Show is to enable Charter Brokers to inspect the yachts, meet captains and crew at the start of the season in order to best advise their charter clients and recommend the top yachts to them.

Joachim Howard, Director at Ocean Alliance underlines the importance for expert charter agents to participate in this prestigious showcase:

The Antigua Charter Show is a very important event. It is one of the two specific charter shows on the nautical calendar.

Antigua puts us in front of the central agents and crew of almost 100 yachts up to 90 meters in length, which operate internationally. Having first hand knowledge of the product is critical when representing clients wanting to charter outside of Australia. It also offers the opportunity to meet and reconnect with industry partners.

Secondly we have an opportunity to sell Australia and the South Pacific as a charter destination, and promote our yachts under management to the key global brokers. Given Australia’s proximity to the United States it is a strategic market for us.

Our Charter Division Manager, Laurie Foulon represented Ocean alliance at the Antigua Charter Yacht Show from 3rd to 10th December 2015.

This year’s Show was impressively positive for Ocean Alliance. The line-up was stunning, and the exceptionnally dry weather allowed me to step onboard a fantastic selection of yachts: I was taken around in a design voyage on the brand new 46m SCORPION (San Lorenzo); listened to the round-the-world sailing stories from the Captain of 50m SILENCIO (Perini Navi) and the Officer of 37m ZEEPARD (JFA Explorer); last but not least the Chef of 38m PERLE BLEUE (Hakvoort) treated us to the delights of local Caribbean cuisine brought to a 5-star table with a view. And many more experiences throughout the Show such as the MYBA Launch Party, or the 3 Yacht Hop Nights showcasing the floating ladies dressed in a theme picked by their fun, enthusiastic and -oh- creative crew.

Antigua was also the ideal Yacht Show for me to reconnect with fellow colleagues, and put faces to names for these brokers I knew from those multiple emails and phone calls, creating perfect charters around the world.

My relocation from Monaco to Australia certainly raised high interest and curiosity. It was really exciting to talk about the destinations offered by Ocean Alliance, and describing the stunning discoveries that Charterers can experience in the South Pacific. A lot of brokers are themselves avid divers, snorkellers or even marine researchers, and I made sure they are welcome to our region anytime!

Ocean Alliance will be attending the Antigua Charter Yacht Show this year, taking place from 4 to 10 December 2016.
