Ocean Alliance offers clients a private preview of The Archies
The Archibald Prize is the pinnacle of fine art prizes in Australasia. A celebration of portraiture, each year the region’s leading artists submit their artworks ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics’ in hopes of winning the Archibald Prize; or Archies as the competition is affectionally known.
It is a much anticipated and hotly debated competition which is on public display in the Art Gallery of New South Wales. However, Ocean Alliance, in conjunction with The Luxury Syndicate, was able to host their clients at a private viewing on Monday 28 May 2018 before the exhibition opened to the public.
“It is amazing to see what the artist can achieve and communicate through the paintings. Some felt as though you were looking at the actual person, where others were less literal yet left you with a very distinct impression of the subject,” explained Ocean Alliance’s Managing Director, Joachim Howard.
In total there were 57 Finalists on display and for a few hours, Ocean Alliance and their guests were able to mingle, view the portraits and hearing from the exhibition’s curator on the pieces.
Laurie Foulon, Charter Experience Manager for Ocean Alliance, explained, “We know our clients have a wide range of interests and we enjoy finding these unique experiences for them. It was a lovely evening and we were glad to have shared it.”
Aside from the finalists in the Archies, the exhibition includes the finalists from the Wynne Prize, awarding excellence in Australian landscape painting, and the Sir John Sulman Prize, honouring ‘the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project by an Australian artist’.
